Ugly Sweaters

Dear Friends:

When did Ugly Sweaters ever get to be so important? We now have a cookie cutter and paper napkins.

I always thought ugly sweaters were a gag gift and that you only wore them to show your good manners, namely that you appreciated the gift. In case you are wondering, Miss Manners says you have to wear something twice in front of the person, after that you can get rid of it. The same rule applies for tacky house things.

We have both Hanukkah and Christmas cookie cutters.

And both Hanukkah and Christmas Holiday Sprinkles and Baking Cups.

Finally, we have Gift Boxes and Treat Bags to pack your goodies in.

I am doing this early, the Christmas cookie recipe is Speculatius cookies. These are the cinnamony crisp cookies from Germany that I often talk about. They are made with lots of butter and spices. We have packages, but you can also make them.

These are an easy cookie to make. You can press them into a form or make cookie logs and cut and bake. Either way they are good and make good dunkers.

These are the packages of cookies and don’t forget the ones smothered in chocolate. I think these are my third favourite after all the other things I like!

See you at Scoop N’ Weigh, the Candy Store for Grownups!Linda Klimack

P.S. For all the penguin people we have penguin tote bags.

I made a mistake in ordering, instead of six bags I ordered thirty six (a slip of the fingers and a surprise), so you are going to hear about these for a while. Also because these are not specifically Christmasy you can use them for the winter. Or year round if you don’t care.

P.P.S. Back again are these Chocolate Cups. They are tiny – 1.25″ diameter – dark chocolate cups that make a quick dessert. You can fill them with chocolate mousse, whipping cream, custard, orange curd or caramel sauce and top with fruit, chocolate curls, nuts, toffee bits or anything you can think of.

This is what they look like gussied up.

P.P.P.S. For popcorn lovers we have Gingerbread and Reindeer Munch. These are gourmet popcorn – no ordinary butter and salt – these are mixed with chocolate, pretzels, biscuits, drizzle and sprinkles. It is almost difficult to find the popcorn. This is sappy movie, don’t share with anyone popcorn! They contain all the food groups!

P.P.P.P.S. Another of my favourites, although I have resisted up to now, are Baru Marshmallow Bars in Sea Salt Caramel or Chai Latte flavours. These are not overly sweet and the marshmallow is above the grade of the packaged ones we toast in the summer. Plus they are smothered in chocolate.

I am pacing myself with the treats this year, trying to make it a treat, rather than a binge, so these marshmallow bars will have to wait (until I realize we are down to the last few then I will panic).

P.P.P.P.P.S. Need a sort of gag gift for a tea drinker? We have these tea infusers, or as we used to call them tea bobs.

Yes one is a pair of red mitts and the other is a guy sitting in a hot tub! Everyone need a bit of a smile in their life.

P.P.P.P.P.P.S. Finally the store hours during the Holidays are:

Sunday 12 – 5
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9 – 6
Friday 9 – 7
Saturday 9 – 6
